Kitchen Organizing Tips

Last Tuesday was the first week of our 6 Weeks To Fall In Love With Your Home organizing series. The hour long webinar was jam packed and I wanted to share a few things from the webinar.

When setting up an organized kitchen for efficiency, we look at 5 areas.

  1. Food Preparation Zone
  2. Cooking Zone
  3. Cleaning Zone
  4. Food Serving Zone
  5. Food Storage Zone

Food Storage Zone

This particular zone includes the refrigerator and the pantry.  When I help clients with the pantry (as this is a common area that needs to be addressed), there isn’t one correct way to organize a pantry.  The key to having a pantry organized for you and your family is to have it organized for your needs.  While this pantry is very pretty

it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is functional.  For my situation with my family and the life we live, this pantry would require me to have the time to take all the food out of the boxes and put them into the containers.  I know how busy we are and I know I couldn’t keep up with this. This pantry is not functional for me.

Now this pantry

would work for my family.  Why?  Baskets are used to contain items so a box of crackers can easily go into the bin. This particular pantry also uses one of my favorite organizing tools – a tiered rack!

I’m looking forward to hearing how everyone did with the kitchen organizing.  I’m super excited as we’ll be tackling closets this week!  From the front closet to the master closet – I’ll be covering them all!    There’s still time to join in the organizing journey!

This makes kitchen work much easier, if we can follow the tips you have given, we can do cooking as an art. It gives new information to how to handle the kitchen with much ease. If we can keep kitchen in the above said format even kiddos can start cooking and we can bring interest in cooking. This kind of arrangement can make work easier

Wow, amazing pantry. I have a similar one at home but looks completely different. It’s a disaster. I need to get those shelves to make it more organised. I also love the idea wallpapering the walls to make it more “attractive”. Just that would make me keeping more clean. I know the jars are not practical, I tried it myself and didn’t last for the refill. In the end I had empty containers and full boxes of cupboard food which obviously took so much space that I couldn’t find anything.

      Hi Karolina,
I do love the idea of wallpapering the pantry as well. I think when we take the time to make a space organized and pretty, we’re more opt to keeping it clean and tidy.

I love how you broke it down to 5 areas to make your kitchen look more organized. I also like the set up of the food storage area, it looks so simple and organized, the food are also segregated accordingly. Unfortunately we cannot do that in our own home since we do not have that much space in our house. But anyways, nice concept, I might apply it when we move in to a bigger house.

    Hi Sheri,

I love how you rearranged or reorganized your new pantry. It amused me at first and thought how clever you were in making things simple for your family. Yeah, there is no need to be pretty and complicate oneself in the process. I like simple storage and pantry as long as it keeps my family well-fed. 🙂

I think sometimes overthinking can halt the progress. My ‘go-to’ saying is always this: “Think function first, then how can you make it pretty.” ~Sheri
