Decorating From Brown to Gray

Decorating From Brown to Gray

Ok – we all know what a hit 50 Shades of Grey was (and quite possibly still is).  I recently received an email from Kobo with the latest edition to the series Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian so my guess is that it too will be a hit.

Not only is 50 Shades of Grey (written by E L James) a hit, but grey continues to be a hit in the decorating world.  Most of my refresh clients want to move away from the brown, Tuscan trend and introduce grey into their homes.

Are There Really 50 Shades of Grey?

I’ll be honest, I don’t have a clue how many shades of grey there are and I really don’t care.  When I was researching I came across the following information: “…humans are only capable of seeing 30 hues between black and white.” Do I care?  Not really.  What I care about is what the undertone of the grey is.  Why?  Knowing the undertone of the grey is crucial to know what grey will work in your home.  I recently had a client who said she’d love to move towards the grey trend but didn’t want cement on her walls.  I still giggle at that sentence because I can totally relate!  I have used that line many times with other clients.  By the way,  yes – there is a way to move toward the grey trend without having your walls look like a sidewalk!

Blue Gray works well when your home falls into the true white and blue white foundation palette.  Blue gray is a bit cooler than a green gray.  Some of my favorite blue gray colours are:

I have yet to spec out any violet gray colours however, there are a few pretty ones:

This happens to be my favorite undertone as most of these colours remind me of the spa.  To me, they just give the, “Ahhhh” feeling!
