Project Reveal: Main Bathroom Makeover goes from dated to updated

I am so excited to share this main bathroom makeover with you. We took a once a dated bathroom with limited function, to a space this family of four can utilize and relax.

Main Bathroom Makeover: Before

As you may know, when we start on projects, we always discuss what are the pain points for the space.

Some of the pain points for main bathroom were:

  • dated
  • lack of useable storage
  • some water issues (potential leaking)

BEFORE

Glass wall needed to go.

Although a lot of counter space, not great useable space.

Note water damage on the floor around the toilet.

The Wants

  1. A relaxing bathtub was a high priority for this bathroom. This bathroom will be the only one in the home that has a bathtub.
  2. Useable storage. The request wasn’t for a lot of storage, but what we could create needed to be useable.
  3. A spot for a laundry hamper.
  4. A shower.

The Plan

We always come up with at least two options. After reviewing the options and making tweaks and changes, here is the plan that we designed for our clients.

Checking off the List of Wants

As I mentioned above, there were a couple of pain points that this family was facing in this bathroom. To achieve the wants and wishes for this bathroom makeover, we designed the following:

  • A floating vanity to house the laundry hamper below.
  • Pull out drawers were designed in this vanity to get the maximum depth usage for storage.
  • A medicine cabinet was designed to fit the tight space and to provide more storage.
  • Creating space for a bathtub also allowed us for a decent size shower.
  • Of course, everything was new!

The plus with this bathroom makeover is that we just completed the basement development so this family had a beautiful, working bathroom to use while we worked on this one.

The Challenges

With most bathroom makeovers, we typically run into something. The joys of remodelling!

Due to some past work, we could clearly see into the wall there was an issue. The kitchen exhaust fan was not connected properly. As such, there was no proper ventilation in the attic space. This caused moisture to be present (and a lot of it)! With our temperatures plummeting to -30┬░ C, we soon had an issue we needed to resolve.

Drying out some water damage due to poor ventilation.

With the plumbing and HVAC changes, most of the floor needed to be opened up.

The Reveal

All things considered, with plumbing issues and a few curveballs, it’s now time to show off the results!

I always like to put together a final video, so here’s the entire project in a nutshell. I hope you have enjoyed seeing this project unfold.
